Public speaking coaching and voice coaching, and how they fit together
I coach both. Public speaking coaching covers structure and delivery. As a voice coach I add the anatomy and science of how your voice works, so delivery stops being guesswork. Most people I work with need some of each.
What public speaking coaching covers
Public speaking coaching is about what you say and how you deliver it. That means shaping a talk so it has a clear point, and knowing how to open and close it. It's also the delivery side, like pace and eye contact.
What voice coaching adds
Voice coaching goes underneath the delivery. It looks at breath, tension, resonance and tone, and how those change when you're under pressure. Plenty of delivery advice tells you to slow down or sound more confident. Voice work shows you what's physically getting in the way, so you can actually do it.
That's the part I bring from my training at Royal Central and from teaching at RADA and LAMDA.
Where to start
If people tell you your talks are hard to follow, or you lose your thread, start with structure. If people tell you you sound nervous or quiet, or your voice tires easily, start with voice. If it's both, that's very normal.
The Voice Audit is a good first step either way. It's 90 minutes, and it covers how you structure what you say as well as how you sound, so you leave knowing which to work on first.
